Outstanding Seniors in the College of Science: Rosie McClure
This spring, each department in the University of Arizona's College of Science nominated an outstanding senior who went above and beyond during their time as a Wildcat. We are pleased to share their stories as they reflect on their time at UArizona. First up in the senior spotlight series is Rosie McClure.
Rosie McClure
Hometown: Fort Collins, CO
Degree: Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences with a Minor in German Studies
College of Science: Why did you choose your area of study?
Rosie: I chose to become a speech language pathologist because providing children with support to find their own voices excites me. Communication is key for inclusion and when children have the opportunity to communicate they are able to access their world. I love what I get to do, and I am so excited to create meaningful connections with children, so that they can be seen by the world for how beautiful they have always been.
COS: Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.
Rosie: In my introductory course to speech, language, and hearing sciences, it was like going to Costco on a Saturday, sampling everything, and immediately shoving it into your cart to savor again later. We spent days on concepts that I have since spent months studying in subsequent courses. I aspired to gain all the knowledge that I possibly could through my undergraduate experience. For many of my peers, studying was a task they dreaded. I did have this feeling when studying chemistry but overall I found that my core classes were genuinely fun.
COS: What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you'll cherish forever?
Rosie: My first monsoon experience was so much fun. My freshman year roommate and I went to the Bear Down Pep Rally and when we came out of McKale it was pouring rain and the streets were flooded. We were not prepared for this and all of our clothing was immediately soaked through. We decided to make the most of the rain and jump in giant puddles on our way back. It was like we were kids again!
COS: What is next for you after graduation?
Rosie: I plan to continue my education in the fall by attending the University of Arizona's master’s graduate program to earn the necessary certifications to become a speech language pathologist. I am excited to continue the research I started as an undergrad and expand my knowledge!
