The College of Science holds an Honors Convocation each fall to recognize students who have achieved academic excellence in undergraduate degree programs for the previous academic year. The event not only celebrates the hard work of students, but also serves to recognize the family and friends who support them.
HONOR CORD PICKUP INFORMATION: If you were unable to attend the Honors Convocation on October 8, 2022, honor cords will be available for pickup beginning Tuesday, October 11, 2022 and ending Wednesday, November 16, 2022, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9:00am-2:00pm, in Gould-Simpson, 10th floor, in either room 1025 or room 1027. A sign will be posted on the door of the room being used for pickup that day. If you want to send someone else to pick up your cord, please email email@example.com in advance.
Annual COS Honors Convocation Ceremony
The College of Science recognizes eligible students individually. At the ceremony, students will have their name read, walk across the stage, and receive a cord. Students receive cords for Highest Academic Distinction or Academic Distinction based on achievements over one academic year. Students receive cords for the Dean’s List with Distinction and Dean’s List for achievements over one semester.
Highest Academic Distinction – red, white, and royal blue honor cord
4.000 grade-point-average for 30 regularly graded units the previous academic year
Academic Distinction – blue honor cord
3.500-3.999 grade-point-average for 30 regularly graded units the previous academic year
Dean's List with Distinction – red honor cord
4.000 grade-point-average for 15 units in a semester
Dean's List – white honor cord
3.500-3.999 grade-point average for 15 units in a semester
Units considered in these awards are completed for credit and letter grade and exclude all Pass/Fail [P/F] and Superior/Pass [S/P] grades. Students must make up all Incomplete (I) grades before receiving the honor.
This is not a mass email. If you received this email, you have achieved Dean's list or higher in the last academic year if your primary college was the College of Science.
Check your email for a letter of invitation in September to the Honors Convocation ceremony in Mid-October, this recognizes your achievements from the previous academic year (Summer through Spring).
This award recognizes your academic achievements for the prior academic year. If your primary college is the College of Science (Summer through Spring). You may wear your cord or cords at graduation to show you academic achievements. Some students receive awards for multiple years.
If you believe your transcript is incorrect, take a paper or electronic copy of your unofficial transcript to the registrar’s office and they can assist. If you think you are not receiving the correct award, please email us a copy of your unofficial transcript to Brittany Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org, so we can check your transcript with our records.
You will be invited back to receive the honor cord you earned this year. Alternately, we will mail it to you if you cannot attend in person if you reside outside of Pima County.
We include instructions with your invitation allowing you six weeks to pick up your honor cord after the ceremony. If you failed to pick it up or did not contact us at email@example.com, the cords will no longer be available. We do not order more until the following year, to meet the demand of the expected need for that upcoming ceremony.
We typically mail cords only to students who are physically located outside of Pima county who cannot come to campus.
