Each semester, the College of Science recognizes outstanding graduating seniors from each of its departments. Today's award recipient is Serena Lewis from the Department of Mathematics.

College of Science: Why did you choose your area of study?

I chose to major in Statistics & Data Science because I really enjoyed AP Statistics in high school. I was fascinated by how data could be used to uncover patterns and produce insightful narratives about the world.

COS: Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.

I really enjoyed MATH 464 – Theory of Probability. The material was challenging and the homework was tough, but I loved working through the problems. Professor Conroy made the class especially memorable.

COS: What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you'll cherish forever?

I’m most proud to have maintained a strong GPA throughout my time here. Many of my upper-division courses were really tough, but I put in the time and effort each semester and am proud of how far I’ve come.

COS: What is next for you after graduation?

After graduation, I’ll be heading to North Carolina State University to pursue a PhD in Statistics.
