Dr. Brian LeRoy is the interim Associate Dean for Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in the College of Science and a Professor in the Department of Physics. Brian has been at the University of Arizona since 2006 and previously served as Director of Graduate Studies and then Associate Department Head in Physics.  Prior to joining the university, Brian received his B.S. degree in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Michigan in 1998 and his PhD in Physics from Harvard University in 2003.  He was then a postdoctoral scholar at the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Brian’s research interest are in the electrical and optical properties of atomically thin materials and van den Waals heterostructures. These properties are probed through a combination of scanning probe microscopy and optical spectroscopy techniques. Brian is a fellow of the American Physical Society and a past Associate Editor of APL Materials.
