This fall, the College of Science recognized ten outstanding seniors for their contributions in and out of the classroom. Saif Alrawaished is this semester's recipient from Physics

The College of Science caught up with Saif to learn more about his experiences at the University of Arizona and what is on the horizon after graduation.

Why did you choose to study Physics?

I chose physics because it requires clarity and precision. I'm drawn to the way computational and mathematical tools are used to turn complex data into reliable physical statements.

Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.

I especially valued my junior computational physics course, where I numerically solved the 2D time dependent Schrodinger equation to study the dynamics of a charged particle in a magnetic field. It was my first exposure to computational physics, and it shaped my later research.

What is one specific memory from your time at U of A you’ll cherish forever?

Presenting my ATLAS analysis at the APS Four Corners Section meeting. It was the first time I saw my work situated within a broader scientific effort.

What are you most proud of having accomplished in your time at U of A?

I’m most proud of developing the discipline needed to work in physics at a serious level and of building the technical foundation that allowed me to contribute to ATLAS calorimeter studies as an undergraduate.

What is next for you after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to pursue graduate study in experimental high energy physics. I want to continue working in an environment defined by large data sets, structured collaboration, and the kind of intellectual pressure that shaped my last four years.
