Outstanding Seniors in the College of Science: Eryka Rivera
This fall, the College of Science recognized ten outstanding seniors for their contributions in and out of the classroom. Eryka Rivera is this semester's recipient from Psychology.
The College of Science caught up with Eryka to learn more about her experiences at the University of Arizona and what is on the horizon after graduation.
Why did you choose to study Psychology?
I chose psychology as my major because it has always intrigued me. I love learning about the different ways people think and the experiences that shape their perspectives and choices. One of my favorite classes was Abnormal Psychology. It was fascinating to explore various disorders and better understand the complexities of mental health.
What is one specific memory from your time at U of A you’ll cherish forever?
A memory I will cherish forever is my time as a mentor through the LifeStep Program. I had the opportunity to mentor a young boy in the community I grew up in, and watching his growth throughout the semester was rewarding. The activities we shared and the progress he made truly meant a lot to me.
What are you most proud of having accomplished in your time at U of A?
I am extremely proud of finishing my degree. There was a moment when I wasn’t sure it would be possible due to financial difficulties and limited time while working to support myself, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to complete my degree online. I am even more thankful to be a staff member at CAPS.
What is next for you after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to take the spring off to relax and spend time with my friends, family, and my two doggos. In the fall, I hope to begin my master’s program and work toward becoming a licensed professional counselor. It would be a full circle moment to have the opportunity to serve my community and use the skills I’ve gained to support those in need, as when they supported me.
