Outstanding Seniors in the College of Science: Aadith Mosur
This fall, the College of Science recognized ten outstanding seniors for their contributions in and out of the classroom. Aadith Mosur is this semester's recipient from Bioinformatics and the department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology.
The College of Science caught up with Aadith to learn more about his experiences at the University of Arizona and what is on the horizon after graduation.
Why did you choose to study Bioinformatics?
Bioinformatics is an evolving field of study involving the intersection of data analytics and biology. In a world where AI is rapidly progressing, I feel that the field is an important area which is essential for future healthcare professionals to understand. As a pre-med student, the knowledge I would gain from the classes I take would provide me with a different perspective to helping people as I work towards my goal of becoming a doctor.
Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.
My time at the Sutphin lab has taught me a lot about the world of research. As a sophomore, I never thought I would find myself working in a research lab. What started as an intimidating venture into the unknown soon became one of the most rewarding experiences of my undergraduate career. I enjoyed the challenge of designing experiments, troubleshooting protocols, and analyzing data. This experience shaped my perspective on the profound impact of research in advancing patient care, inspiring me to continue working in research in medical school and possibly in my future practice as a physician.
What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you’ll cherish forever?
Sports have always been a huge part of my life and the student section atmosphere at UA has been unreal. My junior year, I ran a 40-yard dash with my friends on the field during the game against Utah. We ended up destroying them and rushing the field at the end of the game.
What are you most proud of having accomplished in your time at UA?
I am most proud of my honors thesis, which is a culmination of my work in the research lab as well as my growth as an undergraduate student. I am also proud of my commitment to graduating early so that I can start working in the healthcare industry.
What is next for you after graduation?
After working as a dialysis care technician for the first half of 2025, I will be embarking on a backpacking trip across Eurasia with my close friends before eventually starting medical school.
