How’d you choose your major/minor?
I decided to major in MCB because I am passionate about the subject and to put it plainly, I love talking about cells and how cool they are. Coming into college, I knew I wanted to study the biological sciences but it was not until I took MCB 181 during my sophomore year that I realized I had found my niche. After some back and forth, I decided to switch my major to MCB and not a day has gone by where I have had any second thoughts. I did not expect to become as interested in MCB as I did but taking the introductory class altered the trajectory of my college path. I wish I had known about the MCB major sooner and so I hope to have a positive impact on prospective students who are unsure or might be considering a major in MCB.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
Choosing one favorite spot on campus is so hard because there are so many spaces that I love but if I had to pick one, it would be the grassy area outside of the Douglass building near Centennial Hall. This area is such a great spot to study when the weather is nice.
What has been the highlight of your college career thus far?
The highlight of my college experience so far has been serving as a Learning Assistant/ Preceptor for MCB 181R for almost two semesters. In this role, I have been able to work closely with students during class time and during office hours to aid them in synthesizing course content. I have also gained more insight into the learning process through attending weekly seminars for LA’s to discuss learning strategies and how to apply these when helping students. Through my interactions with students, I have hoped not only to assist them in mastering foundational biology topics but bring some excitement to the course content. I would hope to bring this same passion to potential students and others, outside of the classroom as an Ambassador.
