Larry Allen

Larry Allen retired from Air Products in 2009 after 31 years. His last position was Corporate Vice President of Global Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality for manufacturing plants, research labs, and other facilities worldwide. He and his wife, Susan, moved to Tucson the same year.

In 2011, he worked at ICS (Interfaith Community Services), helping unemployed individuals write their resumes and search for appropriate positions. He then got involved in 2013 at the Mirror Lab as a docent giving tours. He also gave many external presentations at Rotary Clubs, SkyGazers SaddleBrooke Astronomy Club, and the Mountain Oyster Club. Larry then joined the Astronomy Board for Steward Observatory.

He has been involved with the Galileo Circle and has conducted video interviews with students to promote the College of Science. In 2019, Larry became a docent for the Tree Ring Laboratory and did external presentations at elementary schools and Pima College. He also did a video for the Tree Ring Laboratory awareness on Instagram.

Larry was the first sponsor for Mentorship and Education in Science for Tucson (MESCIT), a math tutoring and mentorship program for Native American high school students. He has also sponsored programs for students at the Mount Lemmon SkyCenter.

Larry is involved at the University of Akron, where he received his Chemical Engineering degree, and is on the President's Advisory Council and the Chemical Engineering Board.

He enjoys hiking, cycling, golf, reading, and traveling with his wife Susan.
