Major & Minor
Major: Psychology
Minor: Spanish, Human Development and Family Science
Hometown: Tucson, AZ
How’d you choose your major/minor?
I became interested in pursuing a psychology major because I witnessed firsthand the negative stigma surrounding mental health in Hispanic/Latino communities. Growing up, I saw how many individuals in my community struggled with mental health challenges but were often reluctant to seek help due to cultural taboos and a lack of understanding. This stigma, combined with the academic disparities that disproportionately affect Hispanic and Latino students, often leads to increased stress, anxiety, and feelings of inadequacy, which can further impact mental health. Attending the University of Arizona opened my eyes to research and how it can be more inclusive. Through my studies and research, I aim to address these issues by breaking down barriers to mental health care and creating support systems that promote both academic success and emotional well-being.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot on campus is the courtyard between the psychology and education buildings. It had plenty of shade and trees, which made it the perfect place to get work done.
What has been the highlight of your college career thus far?
The highlight of my college experience was studying abroad in Spain. Being able to take history classes and walk the very streets where history took place was incredible. I also had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and make some amazing friends.
