Outstanding Seniors in the College of Science: Michelle Wei
This spring, each department in the University of Arizona's College of Science nominated an outstanding senior who went above and beyond during their time as a Wildcat. We are pleased to share their stories as they reflect on their time at UArizona. Our next Outstanding Senior is Michelle Wei in the Department of Mathematics.
Michelle Wei
Department: Mathematics
College of Science: Why did you choose your area of study?
Wei: I chose to major in mathematics (life sciences emphasis) because I thought it would complement my other major, which is biochemistry. The data analysis skills I've learned from my math courses have been very helpful in research projects.
COS: Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.
Wei: I really enjoyed Math 422 (Applied Math) because I learned a lot about how ordinary differential equations can be applied to outside fields. For my term paper, I wrote about applications of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) to analyze biological pathways. The interdisciplinary of the course enriched my understanding of both math and biology.
COS: What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you'll cherish forever?
Wei: Performing at Brookdale Senior Home with Music and Medicine Club!
COS: What is next for you after graduation?
Wei: I will be pursuing an MD at UA COM-T.
