Message from Dean Carmie Garzione - April 2024 Newsletter

Dear students, colleagues, alumni, and friends,

We are in the homestretch of the spring semester, and I am so proud of the work happening across the College of Science. Classrooms are full of students and laboratories are buzzing with research. I would like to wish everyone an excellent conclusion to your semester. As you will read in this month’s newsletter, there are so many great things happening in the College of Science.

Please join me in extending my early congratulations to our spring 2024 graduates. I look forward to seeing you and your families inside McKale Center at the College of Science Convocation Ceremony on Friday, May 10. As you continue your journey beyond the College of Science, I encourage you to continue to learn, explore, and discover. I hope you will stay in touch with our community no matter where your path takes you next. You are a Wildcat for life!

I am excited to recognize three outstanding groups of Wildcats from the College of Science. Departments throughout the college have nominated students for the Outstanding Senior Award as well as the Excellence in Undergraduate Research Award. We will celebrate these exemplary students at an awards banquet in May. Additionally, the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Awards in Scholarship, Service, and Teaching have been announced and were celebrated at a gathering on April 16. The undergrad and graduate students selected for these awards are tremendous ambassadors for our science community, and I commend you all for your passion and perseverance.

I would also like the celebrate the College of Science faculty and staff selected for prestigious Galileo Circle Awards. These awards recognize some of the college's most exceptional faculty and staff and are one of the highest honors the college can bestow. The Galileo Circle Awards are made possible by the generosity of our Galileo Circle members, who are a vital part of advancing our mission and research efforts in the College of Science.
