College of Science
Fields of Study
Harness Your Curiosity.
The College of Science is home to five fields of study, offering opportunities of every kind.
At its core, science is meant to continually shake up the status quo and transform society for the better. Our five fields of study provide unparalleled academic choice and diversity, allowing students to truly forge their own path of discovery.
Five Fields of Study:
Earth Sciences
Through research, observation and outreach, students and faculty in earth sciences programs produce new knowledge about earth and environmental processes and the influences human life has on the environment. This valuable work provides the scientific bases for environmental and climate policy, educates earth and environmental scientists facing the challenges of the future, and disseminates knowledge and solutions of value in scientific, social, economic, political and industrial pursuits.
Life and Molecular Sciences
Life and molecular science studies take an integrative approach to the study of cells, genetics, chemistry and biochemistry. Faculty and students use models, lab experiments, fieldwork, analysis, state-of-the-art research facilities, museums and collections to gain knowledge and find solutions to health, engineering, environmental, industrial, social and scientific issues that challenge the world.
Mathematics and Computational Sciences
Studies in mathematics and computational sciences include computer science, mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics and information technology. Faculty and students in this program discover new knowledge that can be used to address mathematical, scientific, engineering and technological challenges. This cross-disciplinary approach prepares professionals for careers in science, medicine, engineering and education. By identifying common aims in research and education, faculty collaborate on issues significant to science and society.
Neural, Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences
Study and research in the cognitive sciences focus on ways that the brain’s physical qualities, intelligence processes, behavior and communication interconnect. Through the study of processes such as learning, language, decision making and memory, faculty and students gain new knowledge that can be used to address issues in education, health care, technologies, training and intervention.
Physics and Space Sciences
Through the study of the properties of time, solids, liquids and gases, faculty and students in physics and space sciences programs develop new knowledge and understanding of the significance of the laws that govern the universe. Internationally recognized faculty and state-of-the-art facilities create an ideal environment for interdisciplinary research of the roles of atoms, molecules and other particles and systems in the function of the universe.
