Our next featured faculty member is Dr. Hong Li, an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry.

The College of Science is celebrating APIDA (Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American) Heritage Month by featuring some of the College’s outstanding faculty with Asian roots. Our first featured faculty member is Dr. Haijiang Cai, an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience.

Jane Rigby, who received her doctoral degree from the UArizona Department of Astronomy in 2006, was recognized for her role in the success of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope mission and her longtime support of diversity and inclusion in science.

The award recognizes Regents Professor Rieke's work in infrared astronomy. Rieke led the development of the James Webb Space Telescope's Near Infrared Camera.

The award recognizes her “lasting impact on our understanding of the universe,” in particular through her role as Principal Investigator on a key instrument aboard the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)—an infrared camera that, in the nearly two years since the telescope began scientific operations, has both reinforced and challenged the understanding of the early universe.

Dr. Jane Rigby, who graduated with her UArizona PhD in Astronomy in 2006, receives the highest civilian award of the United States in recognition of her James Webb Space Telescope work and her advocacy for diversity and inclusion in science.
