This fall, departments in the University of Arizona's College of Science nominated an outstanding senior who went above and beyond during their time as a Wildcat. We are pleased to share their stories as they reflect on their time at UArizona. Next up in the senior spotlight series is Evan LaForge in the Departments of Physics and Mathematics.

Evan LaForge

Hometown: Salt Lake City, Utah

Departments: Physics & Mathematics

College of Science: Why did you choose your area of study?

LaForge: I chose mathematics and physics because I initially wanted to be a physics professor, and I thought those majors would prepare me well for a PhD program in physics.

COS: Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.

LaForge: One project I have really enjoyed was the final scene performance in TAR 100, which I am currently taking for my final general education credit. Getting into the mind of a character as well as the dynamics between characters has brought a significant amount of mental challenge. However, it has also been immensely enjoyable due to the humor and social interaction involved.

COS: What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you'll cherish forever?

LaForge: I remember one night, around 9pm, a friend and I met up to sing together in the music building. This was when the swings were still on campus, so after a while, we went to go check them out. We were having a blast, so we continued wandering around campus. We eventually got snacks from the 7/11 on Speedway and then talked about our life experiences outside the architecture building. We each finally went home at around 4am the next morning. The high level of spontaneity of that night combined with the long lasting connection I made with my friend truly make that memory stand out.

COS: What is next for you after graduation?

LaForge: I was accepted into the Charity Entrepreneurship Incubation Program, which provides people who want to start highly impactful charities with the skills necessary to launch a new organization. They also provide well-researched ideas (complete with ~80 page reports), connections to co-founders, and a network of seed funders to help get the charity started. Beginning in February, I will be participating in this program, and I will be launching a new non-profit organization in the spring.
