Message from Dean Garzione – February 2023 Newsletter
Dear students, colleagues, and friends,
I hope that your 2023 is off to a good start.
It has been wonderful seeing so many Galileo Circle members, faculty, staff, students, and friends in Centennial Hall for the Myth Busting Science Lecture Series. I would like to congratulate Dr. Lee Ryan and Dr. Eduardo Blanco for their outstanding and engaging lectures to begin the series. If you missed either presentation, they are available to watch on the UAZScience YouTube channel. I would like to invite you to attend the upcoming presentations on February 15 and March 1, either in-person or on the livestream, as Dr. Jessica Tierney and Dr. Mike Worobey take the stage to discuss global climate change and the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic, respectively. Visit the lecture series webpage to learn more.
The University’s Giving Day begins February 14, and I hope you will meet the challenge and help support the students, faculty, staff, and programs that make our community so vibrant. Scientists are driven by a shared purpose to improve the world through research and discovery. Making a gift on Giving Day makes you a partner in those efforts! In addition to making a gift to any of our individual departments, there are six opportunities to impact the College of Science:
- Dr. Thomas Meixner Memorial Fund
- College of Science Scholarship Fund
- College of Science Challenge
- College of Science Recent Graduate Challenge
- Wildcat Parent Challenge
- First Time Donor Challenge
Visit our Giving Day webpage for more information.
In closing, I wish you all the best this spring semester. Please be sure to read through the many exciting happenings in the College of Science and beyond in this month’s newsletter.
Sincerely,
Carmie Garzione
Dean, College of Science
