Message from Dean Carmie Garzione - February 2025 Newsletter
Dear College of Science community,
There are many exciting activities and events in the College of Science this semester. I am pleased to announce the 20th annual College of Science Lecture Series: Can We Talk? The Science of Communication. This year’s series, which begins on Thursday, March 6th, will feature four lectures from six University of Arizona faculty as we explore the fascinating science behind communication and the integral role it plays in our everyday lives. From communicating with our furry companions, dogs, to bilingualism and how it shapes the way we think and connect within our communities, to the communication challenges facing humans, computers, and AI, and how we might communicate with extraterrestrial civilizations, I hope you will join us at Centennial Hall in March. Additional information on the 2025 Lecture Series, including dates and start times, can be found here.
Giving Day is an opportunity for us to come together and support the students, faculty, staff, and programs that help make the University of Arizona one of the leading universities in the nation. Your generous contributions make a lasting impact, helping to provide resources, scholarships, and research opportunities that benefit the entire College of Science community. On Friday, February 14, I hope you will share your love of science and give to a cause near and dear to your heart. Learn more about Giving Day opportunities here.
Earlier this month, we celebrated the grand opening of a new exhibit at Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium. The Universe of Science exhibit invites you to become an active participant in discovery. You’ll not only explore hands-on STEM activities but also hear from over 30 University of Arizona researchers, faculty, and students, who share their personal stories, their paths to discovery, and the curiosities that fuel their work. From microscopic worlds to the vastness of deep space, and even through the lens of the James Webb Space Telescope, this exhibit is an invitation to explore our world and the universe in ways you never thought possible. Learn about all the fascinating exhibits and planetarium shows Flandrau offers here.
We hope you’ll join us for these activities and events. Bear Down!
