Message from Dean Carmie Garzione - December 2023 Newsletter
Dear College of Science community,
Please join me in congratulating the graduating class of fall 2023! These 520 graduating students in the College of Science persevered through challenges over the past few years and are well-prepared for the next step in their journeys. Graduates, I encourage you to keep learning, exploring, and discovering. I hope you will stay in touch with our community no matter where your path takes you next. You are a Wildcat for Life! If you would like to watch the Convocation Ceremony celebration on Friday, December 15 at 2:00 p.m., click here for the livestream link.
Since the last newsletter, I’d like to share with you the official launch of the Fuel Wonder campaign at the University of Arizona. This campaign will greatly benefit student scholarships and success initiatives, as well as research efforts, that both help make the College of Science an exciting place to learn and work. If you would like to learn more about Fuel Wonder and the goals of the campaign, please click here.
I would like to invite all of you to the 19th annual College of Science Lecture Series, which will return to Centennial Hall in February 2024. This year’s series, Surprise Twists That Transformed Science, will feature four topics from an outstanding group of presenters in the College of Science: Sam Gralla from Physics, Charlotte Pearson from the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research, Sarah Moran from the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, and Jeff Pyun from Chemistry and Biochemistry. Their talks will highlight the twists, turns, and thrills of the scientific discovery process and the surprising outcomes that research sometimes leads to. Visit our Lecture Series webpage for more information and submit your RSVP today!
In closing, I would like to wish all of you a joyful, healthy, and relaxing holiday season. I look forward to seeing you in 2024!
Sincerely,
Carmie Garzione
Dean, College of Science
