School of Mind, Brain and Behavior

School of Mind, Brain and Behavior

The School of Mind, Brain and Behavior is dedicated to the teaching and discovery of principles and mechanisms underlying the development and functioning of brains, the generation and control of behavior, human communication and its disorders, and the rational and emotional states that constitute the mind. The School fosters interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration among students and faculty to create new educational and research opportunities unconstrained by traditional disciplinary boundaries.

The School comprises the Department of Neuroscience, the Department of Psychology, and the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, as well as the Graduate Interdisciplinary Program (GIDP) in Neuroscience, and the Program and GIDP in Cognitive Science. These units foster collaboration and partnership across campus and cooperate with other units in the Colleges of Letters, Arts and Science, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Medicine, and Eller College of Management.

The units within MBB have collaborated to create a new Undergraduate Program in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (NSCS). The Departments of Psychology and of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences also have specialized degree programs.

Topics of discovery range from the identification of basic cellular, molecular, genetic, and developmental mechanisms to the understanding of higher-level neural and cognitive processes associated with individual and social behaviors, to the translation of empirical findings into treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders.
