Outstanding Seniors in the College of Science: Kaitlyn Tullis
This spring, each department in the University of Arizona's College of Science nominated an outstanding senior who went above and beyond during their time as a Wildcat. We are pleased to share their stories as they reflect on their time at UArizona. Our first Outstanding Senior is Kaitlyn Tullis in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences.
Kaitlyn Tullis
Department: Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences
College of Science: Why did you choose your area of study?
Tullis: I always knew I wanted to work with kids in some capacity. After exploring different majors, I decided to take a SLHS introductory course. This course proved that SLHS was the perfect fit for me because of the ability to make personal connections with children, while helping them develop the skills they need to communicate.
COS: Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.
Tullis: I have been participating in Dr. Alt’s Language, Learning, Literacy, and Lexicon (L4) Lab for the past few years. I have absolutely loved learning more about supporting language acquisition in late talking toddlers, working directly with children as a clinician, and getting more involved in the world of research. I feel this has helped develop my skills to better support my journey in becoming a Speech Language Pathologist.
COS: What is one specific memory from your time at UA that you'll cherish forever?
Tullis: There are so many memories from my time at U of A that it is hard to choose a favorite. I will never forget all of the post-test Illegal Pete’s dates with my speech friends, the feeling of stepping into McKale for the first time after an isolated freshman year, and exploring both campus and Tucson. I wouldn’t trade my undergrad experience for the world, and will be forever thankful to U of A for the people and experiences that have come into my life as a result.
COS: What is next for you after graduation?
Tullis: After graduation, I will be staying at U of A to pursue a masters degree in Speech Language Pathology.
