Major & Minor
Major: Statistics & Data Science, Mathematics
Hometown
Kansas City, KS
How’d you choose your major/minor?
I definitely struggled at first to find a major that felt like the right fit for me. I soon realized that data science perfectly combines my love for problem-solving, statistics, and uncovering patterns. One of the best things about this field is that it can be applied anywhere, opening doors to a wide range of career paths—from sports and media to tech and business. Everything relies on data nowadays, and being able to explore the different stories that data can tell has been fascinating. I’m excited to see how these insights will shape companies and everyday life. I’ve also had the chance to work in AI through an internship, and seeing how closely data science is tied to this revolutionary era makes it an incredible field to be a part of.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
One of my favorite spots on campus has to be either the ENR2 building or the duck pond. ENR2 is the perfect place to study or relax between classes, thanks to its cool, peaceful environment. The duck pond, on the other hand, is a shaded and cozy spot near University Blvd where I’ve spent many late nights talking with friends and hanging out.
What has been the highlight of your college career thus far?
One of my favorite college memories so far has been my study abroad experience in Singapore. During my sophomore year, I attended the National University of Singapore, and I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. I was definitely nervous about so much change at once, but the people I met, the experiences I had, and the memories I made will stay with me forever. From unexpected challenges—like a motorbike accident that led to knee surgery in the Philippines—to unforgettable adventures like bungee jumping and seeing some of the wonders of the world, studying abroad helped me grow and change in ways I never imagined.
