Pete Reiners

Interim Associate Dean, Research

Dr. Pete Reiners is Interim Associate Dean for Research in the College of Science and a Professor in the Department of Geosciences. Pete’s research is in geochemistry, geochronology, and subsurface fluid-rock systems. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America, is lead author of the textbook Geochronology and Thermochronology, and was a Scholar in the Earth Science Evolution Program of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) from 2004-2014.

Pete received his PhD in Geological Sciences from the University of Washington and was Postdoctoral Scholar at the California Institute of Technology from 1997-1999. He has held faculty positions at Washington State University, University of Northern British Columbia, and Yale University. His academic leadership positions include Head of the Department of Geosciences (2013-2018), Associate Dean for Research in the College of Science (2019-2021), Dean of Faculty of Environment at UNBC (2022), and Interim Associate Vice President for Research Centers and Institutes (2023-2024).
